The Plan That Helps You Age Better

When you think of aging better, what comes to mind? Is it a collagen cream, or a surgery? Maybe it has to do with the things you wear or buy! I’m here to give you the most effective plan for looking and feeling better- that’s ageless! This plan includes a “diet” for lack of a better word and exercising tips that set you up for success!

The Mediterranean Diet

What you consume play the biggest role in how you age and your overall health. Most of the foods we eat every day, and especially over a long period of time, can cause inflammation. Inflammation is the root of so many health conditions out there today, it’s ridiculous! Inflammation also plays a huge role in how we age. This is why I want to introduce you to the Mediterranean Diet, a plan that includes all the anti-inflammatory foods you can get! It includes:

  • plant-based foods, such as fruits and vegetables
  • whole grains
  • legumes
  • nuts and seeds
  • healthy fats
  • fish

Those are the foods that the Mediterranean diet puts an emphasis on. Staying away from red meats, dairy, salt, and sugar is the goal of this food plan. If you must eat red meats, keep it lean, in small portions, and limit it to only 3 times a month. Stay away from high-fat meats such as sausage and bacon. Dairy consumption should be all low-fat and non-fat yogurt. Replace salt with natural herbs and seasonings. Instead of butter, go with healthier fats such as canola or olive oil. Fruit has all the good sugar your body needs, so don’t even think about those high-sugar cereals and pastries!

When it comes to a healthy diet, fruits and vegetables are king! They do for your body what no meat ever can. If you’re concerned about getting enough protein, don’t worry, leafy green veggies contain all the protein one needs! Legumes are a great sources for iron and protein as well! Fruits are great for cleansing, digestion and stomach health but are most effective when eaten on an empty stomach! Whole grain rice, bread, and cereal are your best source for healthy carbs! Nuts are high in healthy fats, with peanuts being the last on the list to eat. Last but not least, fish is a great substitute for red or fatty meats! The best way to go is with fresh, non-processed fish and stay away from fish that is high in mercury such as tuna, shark, swordfish, and tilefish! Grilled salmon is the best choice here!

Exercise and Brain Aging

One thing that most people don’t know about exercise is that it has a great effect on the way our brains age! Yes, getting a good workout at the gym including cardio and weights does affect your external aging and the way your body looks! However, exercise plays a big role in the aging of the grey matter in your brain and memory sharpness! For example, If you wish to improve your short-term memory, run right before you learn something. Running and cardio stimulate your brain, putting it in a more productive state. If you wish to improve your long-term memory, run right after you learn something! This helps to effectively store the information in your brain for long-term use!

There are so many harmful things out there that can negatively affect the way you age. As you have read, your diet and exercise play a huge role in mental aging, physical aging, and the overall health of your body!
